The tech might be what attracts folks, but it is the meat (meaningful conversations) that keeps them coming. Lots of cool things happen at edcamps that just fly under the radar. At edcampNYC, @meenoorami and I skipped the first session and sat and planned a unit together. I love the fact that school districts are having PD's in an edcamp style and that more and more small towns are hosting these. Now to emphasize the learning more. We were concerned about this as we started planning EdCamp Houston and we specifically tried to market it as an unconference open to everyone (educators AND parents and students -- and we did have some parents and students in attendance) and an unconference where the focus would be on learning about Stephanie Sandiferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01608007602687509637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-983673435679655211.post-81123471697627510142013-04-07T18:50:15.503-05:002013-04-07T18:50:15.503-05:00Hey Chris, thanks for your thoughts. We need the conversations to focus on learning. Every year, we see more and more deep conversations popping up at Edcamp Philly. I'm always amazed by the expertise in the room. It's about LEARNING, not tools. ;-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04686043647509946436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-983673435679655211.post-66149392965618771622013-04-07T15:35:33.926-05:002013-04-07T15:35:33.926-05:00Thank you for the comment and, as a blogger, I oft...Thank you for the comment and, as a blogger, I often don't know what people will take away when they read what I write. I definitely was NOT trying to say that there was anything wrong with the way this edcamp was handled. I was just saying that, with every edcamp, we see all of the stuff being presented that is tech related and we don't always know what else there is at the camp. Project based learning 2. Personalized learning 3. Self-directed learning. If you look at our schedule, there were many more sessions like this and not just about technology.
